What the “New” SAT Misses Big Time

The ‘new’ SAT is causing a lot of debate and criticism. Rightly so. For many parents, students, educators, and college admissions committees, the revised SAT is just a minor variation on the same theme (e.g., more passage analysis, more relevant vocabulary, more focused math questions). In addition to criticizing the skills that are being measured, critics also question whether the new test will promote diversity. As the president of Bard College recently noted, “The time has come for colleges and universities to join together with the most innovative software designers to fundamentally reinvent a college entrance examination system.”

But what would a truly innovative college entrance examination system actually look like?
